THE CAMO SUNSHINE JACKET
This jacket arrived as a standard hooded camo, functional, anonymous and entirely forgettable. The kind of thing that hangs on a rail and nobody looks twice at.
Not any more.
The hood came off first and then I just started. A free crocheted mandala built round by round in every colour I could get my hands on, pink, orange, teal, gold, green, indigo, with no pattern or plan, just colour and instinct and a lot of happy hours with a crochet hook. Scattered around it, individual crochet flowers in burnt orange, white, fuchsia and green because why have one flower when you can have many? Arching across the shoulders in golden yellow ‘Sunshine’ hand crocheted because that’s exactly what this jacket feels like to wear. On the chest there’s a small reversed appliqué heart made entirely from thread scraps because everything on this jacket is made with heart. The zip placket has been replaced with a bold stripe of orange and soft pink rescued from the bottom of an IKEA quilt that has already had one glorious life as a dress. Nothing here comes from nowhere and nothing goes to waste.
This Jacket is a one of one and when it’s gone it’s gone.
